Mi chiamo Menotti Stanghellini. Nato a Siena nel 1932, laureato a Firenze in Papirologia greca nel 1958, sono passato all’italianistica con saggi sul Sacchetti, l’edizione di alcune commedie senesi del Cinquecento e quella dei Sonetti di Cecco Angiolieri. Negli ultimi quindici anni mi sono occupato della questione dantesca, ma anche dell’autenticità della letteratura umanistica e di quelle delle origini dei maggiori paesi europei, scoprendo che per sette secoli gli studiosi non sono riusciti a capire nemmeno chi era davvero Dante come uomo e come poeta e a interpretare correttamente la sua Commedia.

Cecco, Dante, Boccaccio: misteri svelati e una beffa grandiosa mettono a rischio l’assetto culturale dell’Occidente

Insegnante in pensione della scuola media inferiore, primo laureato italiano in Papirologia greca (Firenze 1958), so come si fa una ricerca letteraria bene impostata. Per quindici anni mi sono occupato di italianistica leggendo in continuazione non solo le opere attribuite agli autori più grandi, ma quasi tutta la letteratura italiana delle origini insieme a quelle dei maggiori paesi europei.

Mi sono accorto con meraviglia che gli specialisti in sette secoli non sono arrivati a fare luce nemmeno su chi fosse Dante come uomo e come poeta, visto che il suo capolavoro sta venendo fuori come il poema dell’odio, non quello tanto incensato dell’amore ideale e salvifico.

Ho scoperto inoltre che le opere minori di Dante sono dei falsi e che Giovanni Boccaccio sarebbe solo uno pseudonimo sotto il quale si celò, quando la peste nera cominciò a seminare morte in Europa, il maestro che aveva formato culturalmente l’Alighieri, vale a dire il notaio enciclopedico e poliglotta senese Cecco Angiolieri.

Per lui, falsario, “celare” è una parola-chiave: basta pensare a certi suoi pseudonimi come Celo (non Cielo) d’Alcamo e Tommaso da Celano, ma trasparenti sono anche altri come Cenne de la Chitarra, Cecco Nuccoli, Cecco d’Ascoli, Ciampolino da Siena, Ciacco dell’Anguillara, ser Ciappelletto.

Il notaio fiorentino Brunetto Latini nella faccenda c’entra poco, e Dante ha mentito ricorrendo a un’astuzia per non nominare nel suo capolavoro il bisessuale Cecco, ai suoi occhi mutato da amico, mentore e amante degli anni giovanili in spregevole corruttore, dannato ancora vivo alle pene dell’aldilà sotto le vesti di numerosi peccatori.

Ho sostenuto che Angioliereide potrebbe essere un valido sottotitolo della Commedia: Cecco finisce per diventare il personaggio principale del poema tramite un’infinità di suoi pseudonimi fra cui lo stesso Virgilio, del quale Dante addirittura si serve nel suo viaggio ultraterreno come guida per tormentare meglio e in continuazione il detestato nemico senese, divenuto il suo chiodo fisso, una vera e propria minaccia per la sua fama di venerato poeta sacro.

Non aggiungo altro. Appare strano che uno come me, due volte ripetente al ginnasio-liceo e insofferente della scuola, abbia scelto di fare l’insegnante, ma alla fine con la costanza e lo studio approfondito sono riuscito a capire nella questione dantesca, in quella umanistica e in quella delle letterature europee delle origini, strettamente legate fra loro, i gravi problemi che tanti primi della classe, divenuti famosi e osannati studiosi e filologi, procedendo in colonna e appoggiandosi a vicenda, per secoli non sono stati in grado di spiegare e risolvere in maniera semplice, logica e aderente ai testi arrivati fino a noi.

L’errore di base a mio parere è da addebitare soprattutto all’incapacità degli specialisti di distinguere fra l’idioma volgare fiorentino e quello senese antico, ma in parte anche agli studi iniziali sulle opere minori attribuite a Dante e condotti senza tanti dubbi e indugi, per accrescere la gloria del poeta insieme a quella della sua città.

A questo punto Firenze rischia di perdere la propria centralità linguistica e culturale, l’attribuzione di padre della lingua italiana assegnata per secoli al suo poeta, e perfino un concittadino illustre come Giovanni Boccaccio, che dovrà sparire dai manuali essendo solo un alter ego di Cecco Angiolieri.  

Se quanti hanno a cuore la grande cultura europea non interverranno su una questione che la investe direttamente, ci sono motivi validi per accusare l’atteggiamento conservatore degli specialisti accademici dell’Occidente miranti a sostenere i propri interessi personali di carriera, quelli economici delle maggiori case editrici e gli ideali religiosi in crisi.

Porto a esempio il caso del Dighenìs Akrìtas, da me attribuito al falsario senese Cecco Angiolieri per lo stile impareggiabile: si tratta di uno splendido capolavoro, finora rimasto adespoto, in lingua bizantina, che ai nostri giorni costituisce il poema nazionale della Grecia. Se apparirà un falso, pur stupendo quanto si voglia, la Grecia non ci farà una bella figura.

Ma gli altri paesi europei, anche i più grandi, non sono messi meglio.

Se in tutto questo ho ragione, Siena verrà a trovarsi al centro di una rivoluzione letteraria di enorme importanza per la nostra civiltà, e siccome è la città dove è nato Cecco, in cui ho scoperto anche l’autore dei falsi attribuiti a Platone sul comunismo, Atene uscirà di scena. Ma non mancano altre novità relative a numerosi grandi autori cosiddetti classici.

Umberto Eco del suo romanzo Il nome della rosa, basato sulla Poetica attribuita a Aristotele, arrivò a vendere cinquanta milioni di copie in tutto il mondo, divenendo molto ricco, ma non aveva capito che quell’opera ritenuta a torto aristotelica è un falso del tardo Medioevo: e se davvero si tratta di un falso, la trama del romanzo perde forza, anche perché Aristotele, se è esistito, era più un filosofo e uno scienziato che un letterato, la cui vasta e approfondita conoscenza di poeti vari è un po’ sospetta.

Nei romanzi gli autori sono liberi di accogliere e di inventare tutto quello che vogliono, tuttavia non è giusto che quanto ho scoperto, volto a spazzare via miti e fantasie medievali, venga avversato da studiosi interessati a salvare assetti e posizioni che hanno fatto il loro tempo.

La conseguenza di tutto questo è che una beffa epica, ideata da un falsario geniale senese vissuto in esilio per oltre sessanta anni, dal 1313 al 1375, l’anno della sua morte, dopo secoli finirà per provocare una risata epica capace di sconvolgere molte certezze della società occidentale.

In un saggio ho esposto le prove che già Dante nel primo Trecento si sarebbe reso conto, per i suoi rapporti giovanili con Cecco, della gravità di molti falsi, fra cui l’Eneide, alcuni dei quali coinvolgevano lui stesso, tuttavia da lui non denunciati apertamente come spuri per non compromettere la sua improvvisa e quasi inattesa gloria personale di poeta sacro, che dalla politica aveva ricavato solo fallimenti e sconfitte.

Questo è il dramma vero di Dante più dell’esilio, dei debiti fatti per giocare d’azzardo e della sua passione per le bambine di 9-10 anni, passione neanche troppo segreta, se gliela rinfaccia la stessa Beatrice,  alla quale si unisce Cecco per svelare un Dante segreto nel Fiore, un poemetto composto da 232 sonetti in senese antico, da me pubblicato nel 2009, sulla paternità del quale i filologi italiani e stranieri si sono accapigliati per oltre 120 anni, ma tuttora non compreso a fondo, visto che qualcuno continua a attribuirlo a Dante. 

Se il sommo poeta avesse detto come stavano le cose, il mondo dei nostri tempi sarebbe molto diverso.

Lui, incerto fra verità e gloria, scelse la seconda, ma avrebbe dovuto fare a meno di vantare la propria coscienza netta. 

In futuro, per il mutamento dei principi morali e grazie alla sua arte che rimane grande, potrà essere forse anche più letto, ammirato e apprezzato dalle nuove generazioni, ma non occuperà più il posto che per secoli gli è stato riservato come uomo e poeta, faro di cultura e di fede, talvolta ridotto perfino a un santino.

Cecco dal canto suo, a parte che ufficialmente risultava morto, se avesse detto come stavano le cose, per la condanna come eretico subita a Siena avrebbe rischiato il rogo, tanto più che sarebbe stato costretto a confessare anche i suoi peccati di sodomia. A quel tempo con peccatori come lui si andava per le spicce.

Così si limitò a attuare una vendetta a lungo termine degna di un genio. Se si legge la prima novella del suo Decameron, quella di ser Ciappelletto, si intuisce che lì dà una confessione piena di sé stesso e della sua vita. Confessa tutti i peccati commessi, compreso l’assassinio: in una lite aveva ucciso un popolano senese, che doveva aver fatto imbestialire, offendendolo, il nanetto Cecco fortemente iracondo. 

La revisione del processo alla sua famiglia deve essere costata un sacco di soldi, come Cecco stesso confessa anche per colpire l’avidità di denaro di alcuni porporati del tribunale ecclesiastico con cui ebbe a che fare a Roma.

Tuttavia qui sotto, oltre a Dante, alla sua Commedia e alle opere minori, a lui erroneamente attribuite perché è di fatto l’autore di una sola opera, pur grande quanto si voglia, ci sono di mezzo capolavori come Iliade, Odissea, Eneide, De rerum natura, Bibbia e Vangeli, Cantico delle Creature, Milione, Decameron, Carmina Burana.

Questo è solo un elenco ristretto, al quale andrebbero aggiunte tutte le opere attribuite a Platone e a Aristotele e quelle di grandi autori come Tucidide, Lucrezio, Cesare, Catullo, Virgilio, Cicerone e Tacito, tanto per fare qualche esempio fra i più significativi.  

Chi intende rendersi meglio conto dell’intera questione, che investe il patrimonio umanistico e le letterature delle origini dei maggiori paesi europei, potrà leggere un mio scritto, che mira al sodo e non presenta una sola nota a piè di pagina.

Quel saggio, privo dell’appoggio di recensioni da parte degli specialisti perché capace di mettere in crisi un settore editoriale e un insegnamento andati a lungo con le vele in poppa, dopo due edizioni finite con un fiasco, l’ho mandato a stampare all’inizio del 2022, rielaborato e corretto, ma arrivato a distribuirlo alle librerie mi sono accorto che era mancante dell’ISBN: senza dubbio la sua diffusione è avversata da quanti, preoccupati per i loro interessi e le loro carriere, mirano a far sì che la cultura del mondo occidentale rimanga quella falsa del passato, gabellata come valida e autentica.

Se si continuerà a ignorarmi e a farmi una guerra sotterranea, quel saggio sono disposto a inviarlo per pochi euro a chi voglia leggerlo tramite internet.  

Per di più nella questione non c’è di mezzo solo la letteratura, perché al tempo di Cecco la cultura comprendeva tutte le branche del sapere. Da secoli nelle scuole superiori e nelle università del mondo occidentale, se ho ragione, si insegnano cose che non stanno in piedi e che portano a sprecare soldi, ma che permettono di farne fare un mucchio a gente che straparla in televisione e scrive libri dandosi arie di sapere tutto.

In questi giorni in Italia si discute molto dei guai legati a una scuola che fa acqua da ogni parte. Per esempio, il vecchio liceo classico di questo passo finirà male. Ma prima di discutere su metodi di insegnamento, insegnanti sottopagati e alunni violenti e svogliati, sarebbe bene esaminare a tondo, come direbbe Cecco, la validità e l’autenticità di quanto viene insegnato.

Il senese durante il suo lunghissimo esilio, per vendicarsi di essere accusato come eretico e grande peccatore non solo da parte dell’Alighieri, del quale era stato maestro, amico e amante, ma anche delle autorità laiche e religiose e dei propri concittadini che lo ritenevano un poeta maledetto, con i suoi falsi riuscì a creare una potentissima bomba a scoppio ritardato, uno splendido castello di carte, una beffa epica capace di imprimere, dopo sette secoli, una brusca svolta alla cultura, alle credenze e alla credulità del mondo occidentale.

La faccenda non è facile da risolvere, tanto più che senza quei falsi non avremmo avuto né l’Umanesimo né il Rinascimento. Ma se ho ragione, e non ci vorrà molto a rendersene conto, chiunque pensi che si debba proseguire per la vecchia strada come se niente fosse successo è un illuso.

Cecco, Dante, Boccaccio: revealed mysteries and a grandiose hoax put at risk the culture of Western world

Retired lower secondary school teacher, first Italian graduate in Greek Papyrology (Florence 1958), I know how to do well-organized literary researchs. For fifteen years I have dealt with Italian studies by continuously reading not only the works attribued to the greatest authors, but almost all  the Italian literature of the origins together with those of the major European countries.
I realized with amazement that the specialists in seven centuries have not even managed to shed light on who Dante was as a man and as a poet, because now his masterpiece is coming aut as the poem of hate, not the very incensed one closely connected with ideal and redeeming love.
I also discovered that Dante’s minor works are fakes and that Giovanni Boccaccio would be only a pseudonym under which, when the black plague began to sow death in Europe, he hid the master who had culturally formed Alighieri, that is to say the encyclopaedic and polyglot Sienese notary Cecco Angiolieri.
For him, a forger, “celare” (hide) is a key word: just think of some of his pseudonyms such as Celo (not Cielo) d’Alcamo and Tommaso da Celano, but others are also trasparent such as Cenne de la Chitarra, Cecco Nuccoli, Cecco d’Ascoli, Ciampolino da Siena, Ciacco dell’Anguillara, ser Ciappelletto.
The Florentine notary Brunetto Latini had little to do with the matter, and Dante lied by resorting to the ruse of not mentioning in his masterpiece the bisexual Cecco, in his eyes turned from friend, mentor and lover of his youth into a despicable corrupter, damned while still alive to the pains of the afterlive in the guise of numerous sinners.
I argued that Angioliereide could be a valid subtitle of the Comedy: Cecco ends up becoming the main character of the poem through an infinity of his pseudonyms including Virgil himself, used by Dante in his otherwordly journey as a guide to better torment and continuously the detested Sienese enemy, who became his obsession, a real threat to his fame as a revered sacred poet.

I won’t add anything else. It seems strange that someone like me, repeating gymnasium-high school twice and intolerant of school, chose to be a teacher, but in the end with perseverance and long study I managed to understand Dante’s question, the humanistic question and that of the European literatures of the origins, closely linked to each other. These are the serious problems that so many first in the class, who had become famous and acclaimed scholars and philologists, proceeding in columns and leaning on each other, for centuries have not  been able to explain and resolve in a simple, logical and adherent to the texts come down  to us. In my opinion, the basic errors is mainly due to the inability of the specialists to distinguish between the vernacular Florentine language and the ancient Sienese one, but also partly to the initial studies on the minor works attributed to Dante and conducted without many doubts and delays, to increase the glory of the poet together that of his city.
At this point Florence risks its linguistic and cultural centrality, the attribution of father of the Italian language assigned for centuries to its poet, and even an illustrious fellow citizen like Giovanni Boccaccio, who will have to disappear from the manuals being only an alter ego of  Cecco Angiolieri.
If those who care about great European culture do not intervene on an issue that affects it directly, there are valid reasons to accuse the conservative attitude of Western academic specialists aimed at supporting their own personal career interests, the economic interests of the maior publishing houses and religious ideals in crisis.
I take as an example the case of Dighenìs Akrìtas, which I attribued to the Sienese forger Cecco Angiolieri for incomparabile style: it is a splendid masterpiece, hitherto remained adespotic, in the Byzantine language, which today constitues the National poem of Greece. If it appears a fake, as amazing as you like, Greece will not make a good impression on us, but the other European countries, even the largest ones, are in any better shape.
If I am right in all this, Siena will find itself at the center of a literary devolution of enormous importance for our civilization, and since it is the city where Cecco was born, where I also discovered the author of the forgeries attributed to Plato on communism, Athens will go out of the picture and there is no shortage of other new relating to numerous great so-called classic authors.
Umberto Eco of his novel The Name of the Rose, based on the Poetica attributed to Aristotle, went on to sell fifty millions copies all over the wordl, becoming very rich, but he hadn’t  understood that the work wrongly  considered Aristotelian is a fake from the late Middle Ages: and if it really is a forgery, tle plot of the novel loses strength, also because Aristotle, if even existyed, was more of a philosopher and a scientist than a man of letters, whose vast and in-depth knowledge of various poets is a bit suspect.
In the novels the authors are free to accept and invent whatever they want, however it is not fair that what interested in saving arrangements and positions out-of-date.
The consequence of all this is that an epic hoax, conceived by a brilliant Sienese forger who lived in exile for over sixty years, from 1313 to 1375, the year of his death, after centuries will end up causing an epic laughter capable of upsetting many certainties of Western society.
In an essay I presented the evidence that Dante in the early fourteenth century would have already realized, due to his youthful relations with Cecco, the seriousness of many forgeries, including the Aeneid, some of which involved himself, however not reported by him openly as spurious in order not to compromise his sudden and almost unexpected personal glory as a sacred poet, who had obtained only failures and defeats from politics.
This is Dante’s true drama more then exile, the debts incurred for gambling and his passion for 9-10 year old girls, a passion that is not too secret, if Beatrice herself holds it against him, with whom Cecco joins to reveal a secret Dante in Il Fiore, a poem made up of 232 sonnets in ancient Sienese, published by me in 2009, on the authorship of which Italian and foreign philologists have squabbled for over 120 years, but still not fully understood, if someone continues to attribute it to Dante.
Had said the great poet how things were, the world of our times would be very different. Hesitant between truth and glory, he chose the latter, but he would have done better without boasting of his coscienza netta.
In the future, due to the change in moral principles and tanks to his art which remains great, he will perhaps be even more read, admired and appreciated by the new generations, but he will no longer occupy the place  that has been reserved for him as a man and poet for centuries, light house of culture and faith, sometimes even reduced to a holy card. 
Cecco, apart from the fact that he officially turned out to be dead, if he had told how things stood, for the condemnation as a heretic suffered in Siena he would have risked being burned at the stake, especially since he would also have been forced to confess his sins of sodomy. At that time sinners like him were damned to the fire. So he just carried out a long-term revenge worthy of a genius.
Who reads the first story of his Decameron, that of ser Ciappelletto, senses that there he gives a full confession of himself and of his life. By him are confessed all the sins he had committed, including murder: in a quarrel he had killed a Sienese commoner, who must have angered the highly angry dwarf  Cecco by offending him. The revision of his trial must have cost a lot of money, as Cecco himself confesses also to strike the greed of money of some cardinals of the ecclesiastic court with whom he had dealings in Rome.
However, below, in addition to Dante, his Comedy and the minor works, erroneously attributed to him because he is in fact the author of a single work, however large you want, there are masterpieces such as Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, De rerum natura, Bible and Gospels, Cantico delle Creature, Milione, Decameron, Carmina Burana.
This is only a limited list, to which should be added all the works attributed to Plato and to Aristotle and those of great authors such as Thucydides, Caesar, Catullus, Virgil, Cicero and Tacitus, just to name a few of the most significant examples.
Anyone wishing to better understand the whole question, which affects the humanistic heritage and the literatures of the origins of the major European countries, will be able to read one of my writings, which aims at the point and does not present a single footnote. That essay, devoid of the support of reviews from specialists because it was capable of undermining an editorial sector and teaching that had long gone under sail, after two editions that ended in fiasco, I sent it to be printed at the beginning of 2022, reworked and corrected, but having arrived at distributing it to bookshops, I realized that the ISBN was missing: undoubtedly its diffusion is opposed by those who, concerned for their interests and their careers, aim to ensure that culture of the Western world remains the false one of the past, labeled as valid and authentic.
As for me I shall do my best sending a copy to anyone who wants to read it on internet at a low price.
Moreover, literature is not the only part of the question, because in Cecco’s time culture include all branches of knowledge. For centuries in the high schools and universities of the western world, if I’m right, things have been taught that don’t stand the test of time and that lead to wasted money, but that allow people to make a lot of it who rant about it on television and write books putting on airs to know everything.

These days in Italy there is much discussion of the troubles associated with a school that is leaking everywhere. For example, the old classical high school of this pace will end badly. But before discussing teaching methods, underpaid teachers and violent and listless pupils, it would be good to examine  a tondo, as Cecco would say, the validity and authenticity of what is being taught.
Cecco, during his very long exile, to take revenge for been accused as a heretic and a great sinner non only by Alighieri, of whom he had been teacher, friend and lover, but also by the secular and religious authorities and by his fellow citizens who considered him a cursed poet, with his forgeries managed to create a very powerful time-delayed-bomb, a splendid house of cards, an epic hoax capable of living, after seven centuries, a sharp turn to the culture, beliefs and credulity of the Western world.
The matter is not easy to resolve, especially since without those forgeries we would have had neither Humanism nor the Renaissance. But if I’m right, and it won’t take long to realize it, anyone who thinks we should continue along the old road as if nothing had happened, will be disappointed.
